Snow Leopard Upgrade

If you’re running an Intel Mac with OS X right now, you should be running Snow Leopard. By now you’ve probably heard great things about Mac’s latest kitty, and it has enough bells and whistles to make any computer purr. Snow Leopard is the first iteration of the Mac operating system to tout a 64-bit architecture, which means it will be able to use more than 4GB of memory for applications. It finally unleashes the full potential of Intel’s Core-2 processors for the Mac platform and it’s snappy to boot.

Upgrading from 10.5 Leopard is advertised to free up 5-10GB of hard disk space and increased the CPU performance of Intel Mac’s across the board. What this means is by installing Snow Leopard alone, your computer will be able to run programs faster and have more storage space to tool around with GarageBand and iMovie. Waking up from sleep is now twice as fast and shutting down is faster as well. The new and improved Finder offers a preview feature that will let you play movies or listen to tracks without having to open Quicktime or iTunes to search for a particular file. The Cocoa revision of finder also boasts faster search times in folders full of files and when browsing across a network.

Snow Leopard also comes with the 64-bit version of Safari 4. If you’re already sold on the Safari 4 browser, wait until you see it in Snow Leopard. The 64-bit version launches plug-ins as separate processes so one little error won’t crash the entire browser window or lock it up infinitely. In addition, Java loads much faster in the 64-bit version, and when you consider how many Web sites like Facebook, Youtube or even Apple.com rely on Java, you’ll see a difference when you browse the Web. The new version of Quicktime is built to integrate better with the operating system itself, and users will see improvements and many new features down the road. Out of the box, it includes a neat tool to capture video from your computer screen or iSight camera.

Time Machine backups now complete much faster, Exposé and Stacks received a face-lift, iChat is better with higher resolution video chat, network file sharing is more efficient and reliable. All of the improvements show a clear path of innovation that leads straight into the Lion’s den next summer. So if you haven’t upgraded to 10.6 Snow Leopard, let Geek Easy do it for you. For $100, we purchase and install the software for you to ensure any snags in compatibility from the 64-bit jump are taken care of. We optimize the system during install to ensure you see the full advantage of the Snow Leopard upgrade. Your computer may even come back looking and feeling sleek enough to stalk elusive prey through the mountainous regions of Nepal – and from your perspective, it couldn’t get any easier.
